By spending an hour in the dark on March 31, Le Méridien St Julian’s Hotel & Spa joined millions around the world to send a powerful message about a brighter future for the planet.

The property turned off its lights in observance of the annual Earth Hour, which last year saw a record 135 countries and territories taking part.

To underscore the environmental dedication of its parent Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Le Méridien St Julian’s applied energy-saving measures during Earth Hour.

The exterior signage lighting and all non-essential interior lights were turned off and candlelight was used in public areas.

In-house guests, patrons and media were invited to an informal stand-up reception in the lobby area, where the official Earth Hour 2012 video was projected on a giant screen.

Guests were then invited to the KuDéTa lounge to enjoy the candle-lit atmosphere while enjoying an extended happy hour at the bar. The evening was complemented with an unplugged performance by guitarist Mark Rapa.

During Earth Hour, from 8.30 to 9.30 p.m., Anita Mullen, owner of GX-1, organised a relaxing outdoor class of VIP Body Balance – a Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates workout – on the terrace of the hotel’s lobby.
