Hilton Malta joined 3,800 hotels that form part of the Hilton chain to mark Earth Hour on March 31.

Earth Hour activities at Hilton Malta included switching off outside light-ing, balconies, outdoor pools and part of the corridors during that hour, encouraging guests to switch off the lights in their rooms, and using candles to illuminate all the restaurants.

Organised by World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Earth Hour began in 2007 as a way for individuals to show how simple steps can make a signi-ficant impact on reducing green-house gases and addressing climate change.

Hilton Worldwide recently earned ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications for quality and environmental management – one of the largest volume certifications awarded for commercial buildings and has made a five-year commitment, from 2009 to 2014, to reduce energy consumption, CO2 emissions and waste output by 20 per cent and water consumption by 10 per cent.
