In Malta, the punk scene may be small, but it is authentic, driven and certainly as passionate as its foreign counterparts.

Proof of this is the regular presence of punk gigs on the local live circuit, the latest of which, Rock The Nation, will be held at V-Gen in Paceville on Friday at 9.30 p.m. The event will feature three bands: R.A.S., Dripht and The Beerbellys.

Notorious for their hard-hitting songs, R.A.S. will be revisiting some of the infamous and colourful Maltese songs that used to form part of their live set some years back; a surefire guarantee that their set will kick up some good fun and a great deal of humour too.

Agit-rock and Ska are but two of several terms that describe Dripht’s sound. The band’s songs are not only fuelled by a rebel spirit but also brimming with melodies and energy, collectively reflected in the frenzied moshpit the band successfully fires up at every one of their live performances.

The spirit of the 1980s will be present throughout The Beerbellys’ performance, thanks largely to their repertoire of classic Abstrass numbers –a trip down punk’s memory lane adapted fore the here and now. Tickets are €7. For more information, look up Rock the Nation on Facebook.
