The Malta Karate Federation (MKF) has just awarded a 6th Dan black belt to Birkirkara Karate Club chief instructor Anthony Zammit.

MKF president Kenneth Abela presented the prestigious ranking certificate to Zammit during the National Championships held recently.

Sensei Zammit has always had an active role in karate on our shores. Since his first lessons way back in 1972, he became instrumental in the development of the martial art here as well as in the foundation of the national federation.

Zammit also forms part of the MKF examiners’ panel for black belts.

In his career, he underwent a series of World Karate Federation examinations and in 2005, was appointed World Karate judge in both Kata (patterns) and Kumite (sparring).

The 6th degree belt makes Zammit the highest karate practi-tioner on our shores and as tradition holds, he will now don a red and white belt.
