One of Delicata’s flagship wines was recently exhibited at Vinitaly, the Italian wine fair held in Verona each year. It was presented at one of the stands operated by the Consorzio Tutela Valcalepio.

The consortium is a membership corporation aimed at safeguarding, giving value and defending the production and commerce of Valcalepio DOC wines.

The group – which in collaboration with Vignaioli Bergamaschi, organises the International Oenological Competition: Emotions of the World: Merlot and Cabernet Together – used its stand at Vinitaly to showcase the wines that won awards last year.

Delicata’s premium red wine Grand Vin de Hauteville 2010 vintage Cabernet Sauvignon DOK Superior Malta was awarded a 2011 Press Prize at the Emotions of the World competition.

In total, 201 Cabernet/Merlot wines from 15 different wine-producing countries (Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Malta, Peru, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain and Turkey) were tasted and evaluated by 63 judges.

They came from 18 different countries and formed seven tasting committees to evaluate and reward the wines depending on their performance.

Out of the 201 wines entered, only 30 per cent can be awarded medals and the scoring system is as follows: 92-100 points = grand gold medal score, 85-91 points = gold medal score and 80-84 points = silver medal score. Only 58 medals were given.

The 2010 Grand Vin de Hauteville Cabernet Sauvignon produced by Emmanuel Delicata Winemaker won the Press Prize awarded by tasting committees made up of wine journalists.

A wine that has been awarded a Press Prize must have been awarded at least 85 points out of 100, equal to that of a gold medal.

This brings this particular wine’s medal count up to six, including a gold in Bordeaux and a silver in London.
