Alternattiva Demokratika is urging the government to withhold the budgetary increase in the public subsidy to Arriva until the company makes sure disabled people can access all its buses.

AD chairman Michael Briguglio expressed his disappointment that some buses were not fully accessible to disabled people because of a lack of ramps. AD believes the current problem should not have resulted in the first place.

“Universal accessibility to public transport and all other public services and infrastructure is a basic right, and not something conditional or something dependent on charity,” he said, adding that the party hoped the problem would be resolved as soon as possible.
