Maltese driver and trainer Charles Degiorgio won one of the major events with French three-year-old Verset Ducal in Sweden, on Monday.

The handicap race, held at the Mantorp Racetrack, was held on the short distance of 2,140 metres.

Verset Ducal started to increase its speed with a lap to go and crossed the finish line first with a comfortable three-length margin from Hertig Shim, driven by Oscar Uhrberg, and Italian mare Picania, under the guidance of Tony Wallin.

Angelo Azzurro (Martin Redl) was fourth in the race.

Verset Ducal, which is owned by Degiorgio, clocked an average time of 1.19.6” per kilometre.

In Sweden, Degiorgio is also directly assisted by the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport and the Malta Tourism Authority.

The Mantorp meeting was transmitted live on one of the Swedish TV channels. Again, the presenters gave a lot of promotion to our country during the official presentation of Degiorgio.

Asked to comment about this latest win in Sweden, Degiorgio said that he was very satisifed with the performance of his trotter.

“As you know, I acquired this horse last year during an auction sale in France,” he said.

“At first, Verset Ducal underwent intense training and the hard work reaped instant dividends. It managed to qualify for racing in Sweden and won this important race. We expect more to come in the coming months.”
