The newly-established working relationship between local promoter Paul Borg and the European Boxing Federation (EBF) is proving bene-ficial to the numerous followers of the sport and home boxers in particular.

Having seen the locals in their first ever event in Malta in January, the EBF, with over 1,100 registered boxers, plan to bring over challengers of higher calibre for the April show.

Furthermore, the coming Night of Boxing will be having three fights where International Title Belt recognition in different categories will be at stake. This second Big Night of Boxing is being staged at the Sky Club Paceville on April 21.

The main attraction will be the fight between Malta’s Billy Corito, who will be defending the EBF intercontinental heavyweight title, against Britain’s challenger Davey Clarke.

Corito’s record presently stands at winning eight fights in a row with a high dose of knock-outs.

In fact, on seven of these encounters he knocked out his opponents, six of whom in the second round and one in the first.

Clarke is regarded as a dangerous fighter with a sturdy character, nurtured through his experience fighting against tough and famed opponents. The Corito-Clarke fight will be made up of six three-minute rounds.

With the names of the other boxers on the night announced, two of the bouts will also have intercontinental title belts at stake.

One of these will be for cruiserweight where Tyrone Borg, having to his credit three wins out of three fights, will be fighting Shaun Williams who has a record of five wins out of six fights.

The third title bout on the night will be between middleweight boxers Dione Galea and Joe Swales.

So far, Galea has featured in 14 fights of which he won nine and drew two. Swales is a very experienced amateur and has an EBF record of nine fights with five wins.

The other bouts are: Etienne Spiteri vs Jamie Gelder, Brandon Borg vs Greg Harwood and Lyndon Chircop vs Joe Boffey.

Five other secondary bouts will be made up of four two-minute rounds each.

Tickets, selling at €25 (VIP) and €15, are available from the London Butcher (tel: 9900-3244) and Mr M’s Snack Bar, Gżira.

The main sponsors of the April Night of Boxing are RE/MAX Alliance Tigne, Party Bus Malta and Medasia Fusion Lounge.

Other support is being extended by Fortina Hotel, Sky Club and Pebbles Boutique Hotel.
