Xagħra parish recently organised an exhibition of artistic and devotional crucifixes at the parish centre as part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the devotional crucifix forming part of the crucifixion statue used in the XagħraPassion procession.

The crucifix was brought over from Lecce, Italy, in 1913.

In the exhibition, entitled Ave Crux (Sliem Għalik O Salib), there were various crucifixes of historical value which belonged to ‘saintly’ people like Frenċ tal-Għarb, Dun Mikiel Attard and Bishop Nikol Cauchi.

Other crucifixes belong to monasteries and religious communities which were never exhibited before.
