Double Oscar winner Tom Hanks is in Malta for the shooting of the film Captain Phillips, based on the true story of an American captain who was taken hostage by armed Somali pirates. The captain attempted to escape and was eventually rescued by the US Navy. Shooting is expected to start next month.

Hanks arrived in Malta this afternoon on a private aircraft.

Malta Film Commissioner Peter Busuttil confirmed a few weeks ago that location scouts for the film were recently in Malta to talk to the commission about filming here.

“Malta fits the film location perfectly.,” said Mr Busuttil, adding that the production team was also looking at filming in Morocco.

Also in Malta is Italian heart-throb Raoul Bova, who is expected to start shooting a series in Malta called Come un Delfino.
