Workers have started covering the steel frame of the new Parliament House with unique louvre-like stonework.

The tal-qawwi stone was cut from a quarry in Gozo and has been shaped in Italy to give the building a unique character.

The work has started on the south façade with some 900 'elements' having been put in place out of a total of some 7,000 planned for the whole building.

The unique geometry of the stonework also has an energy-saving function.
