Karl Consiglio’s unpleasant reply (March 31) to a letter about Lourdes betrays an enormous degree of ignorance about what a pilgrimage to that holy place is all about. Believers go there seeking spiritual comfort. Having been there many times along with countless thousands of others, I can assure Mr Consiglio that a pilgrimage to Lourdes achieves that in ample measure.

As for Mr Consiglio’s idol, Richard Dawkins, the man completely undermined his own atheist credentials amusingly and significantly recently by confessing to the fact that he accepts God may actually exist and by calling on God for inspiration during a recent BBC radio broadcast. Perhaps Mr Consiglio might like to reflect on that before plutting pen to paper in the future.
