A decade following the events in Clash of the Titans (2010), Sam Worthington returns as Perseus, son of Zeus, who is now living the life of a humble fisherman.

...it is the supporting cast who really place the film on firm ground- Johan Galea

He is a widower and father to 10-year-old Helios (John Bell).

The gods require his help once again as they are losing their strength with the rise of the humans’ independence. Besides, they can no longer keep the Titans at bay, which would result in the destruction not only of the gods but also of earth.

When Perseus objects to assisting Zeus (Liam Neeson), he is forced to turn to his brother Hades (Ralph Fiennes) along with his son Ares (Edgar Ramirez), the god of war and his brother Poseidon (Danny Huston).

Zeus is consequently betrayed, captured and his power is used to give the titan Kronos the chance of freedom.

When Perseus finds out about the happenings, he sets off with cousin and demi-god Agenor (Toby Kebbell) to find Hephaestus (Bill Nighy) – the weapon maker of the gods.

Together with Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), they set off on an adventure to prevent the earth from being destroyed by Titans.

The audience who enjoyed Clash of the Titans will like this second outing. It presents the same mish-mash of Greek mythology, over-the-top action and incredible special effects.

Shot in a style reminiscent of video games, Jonathan Liebesman continues where he left off in Battle: Los Angeles with a comic book style picture that will have action and special effects fans drooling.

While Sam Worthington plows his way through the story with a smile on his face, it is the supporting cast who really place the film on firm ground.

In particular, Ralph Fiennes as Hades and Liam Neeson as Zeus bring a lot of credibility and style to the screen.

Bill Nighy plays himself to the hilt in a cheesy and laugh out loud role while Toby Kebbell is cocky and Rosamund Pike does more than simply adorn the screen.

Wrath of the Titans is actually a better film than its predecessor. First off, it is not a remake of a cult classic so one cannot make comparisons, and, secondly, the film injects more action, effects and pacing.

The CGI effects are much better and have a sense of visual flair and aplomb that gloss over the story’s simple structure. Thus we will get to follow such creatures as a black Pegasus, a gigantic Cyclops and Kronos himself among others.

The environments created also add to the fantastical nature of this film; the dark habitat of Tartarus translates especially well on screen.
