Mosta health centre is to be revamp in a  €500,000  project announced this afternoon by Health Minister Joe Cassar.

He said tenders have been issued and adjudication is set to start.

Brian St John, from the Foundation for Medical Services said the revamp will include new flooring, a new layout and the installation of a small operating theatre for minor procedures. There will also be a plaster room.

The minister said a digital x-ray machine was installed at Mosta health centre recently and it is now being used around the clock, with consultants at Mater Dei able to see the results in real time. The operations of the x-ray machine will be interrupted only for a limited period became of the revamp.

Dr Cassar said the government was planning to better equip regional health centre to ease the pressure on Mater Dei Hospital.

The CEO of primary health care, Edward Borg, said that while Mosta health centre is closed, basic services will be given in Mosta at a place still to be announced. However most services will be available at Birkirkara Health Centre which will be opening 24-hours a day.
