A sports car was damaged this afternoon when it was hit by a number of bricks which fell off a truck.

The incident happened as the truck was being driven up T'Alla w'Ommu Hill towards Naxxar. The sports car was being driven behind it up the steep hill.

The bricks suddenly slid off the truck and crashed onto the front of the car before the driver had time to slam the brakes or get out of the way.

Two women and a man who were in the car were lucky not to be injured.

Informed sources said the incident happened after the truck stopped suddenly, apparently because of a technical fault. The truck's tailgate gave way and some of the bricks slid off.

CAR DRIVER'S EXPLANATION

The driver of the yellow car later said in a comment to timesofmalta.com (see below)  that she realised that the truck was in trouble and she stopped to give him space. However the truck was so over loaded, that it kept slipping back until it stopped just one foot afar. The driver was braking all the time and the jolts made the gate open and then the bricks fell onto car!

The incident follows a similar one in February when a number of bricks fell off a truck in Xemxija. Fortunately, no car was hit in that incident, but the truck driver is to face charges for failing to properly secure the bricks.
