Parents of people with disabilities who attend adult day centres managed by Sapport Agency have deplored the government’s decision to cut back on funding allocated to such centres.
Family Affairs Minister Chris Said has said, in Parliament, that the agency will see a cutback of €407,000 to €7.7 million.
The Parents Advisory Committee for Day Services said it strongly protested the denial of funding, adding that it was the right of persons with disabilities “to live in the community with all the support society should give through its elected government”.
The committee pointed out that the government supported about 60 people with disabilities in community homes managed by the agency. The waiting list was getting longer and funding was crucial.
