Former US Ambassador Douglas Kmiec writes:

I have just learned of Fr Peter’s passing. A year ago he and I were sitting next to each other at the University of Malta’s concert of Irish music, which for two of Polish and Italian source, would seem odd except for the breadth of Fr Peter’s interests which with love he shared with us all.

A year later we find ourselves at unexpected destinations. When I was given State Department send-off, Fr Peter whimsically wrote a ‘diplo-clerihew’, and if you’ll permit me on this Fifth Sunday of Lent when God promises to write His law upon our hearts and when I will also teach my adult theology class with the reflective writing of Fr Peter, herewith a clerihew with fond farewell:

Fr Peter has left the earth,
Leaving us memory of scholarship and mirth.
While here, dearest Lord, he greatly pleased
And sustained the soul of every Maltese.
