Obinna Obiefule was the protagonist for Mosta FC this afternoon with a poker of goals as the Blues revived their hopes of avoiding the drop with a crushing 5-1 win over Mosta yesterday.

As the scoreline amply suggests, Mosta enjoyed a field-day against the struggling Marsaxlokk who are moving ever closer to relegation.

Mosta took just six minutes to storm ahead when in a quick raid Obiefule released the steaming Jonathan Bajada who dashed inside the area and unleashed a low drive past Marsaxlokk goalkeeper Christian Cassar.

The Blues doubled their lead on 14 minutes when Gilbert Martin was upended in the area by Gabriel Buttigieg with referee Marco Borg immediately pointing to the spot. Obiefule stepped up for the kick and drilled the ball past Cassar.

Obiefule struck again on 21 minutes whe he showed great skill to turn past two defenders, round goalkeeper Cassar and shoot the ball into an empty net.

Marsaxlokk were pouring water from everywhere and six minutes later Obiefule completed his hat-trick. The Nigerian forward dived full stretch to direct the ball into the net from a Dyson Falzon corner-kick.

The southerners were regaled the chance to pull a goal back nine minutes from the break when referee Borg harshly adjudged that Federico Tisbi pushed Jean Paul Farrugia inside the area and awarded a penalty.

From the resultant penalty, Templeman sent Jonathan Debono to reduce the deficit to 4-1.

Mosta completed the rout six minutes from time when Alex Cini met Falzon's cross but his shot was cleared off the line and in came Obiefule to score from the rebound.

Mosta's Obinna Obiefule was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
