The Queen Mother and her daughter Princess Margaret were praised at a memorial service yesterday for “enriching” the lives of their family and friends.
Tributes were paid to the royal women, who died within weeks of each other 10 years ago.
The Royal Family, led by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, gathered for the service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle where the remains of the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret are interred.
The Queen Mother died peacefully in her sleep 10 years ago to the day, March 30, 2002, aged 101, while her daughter died the previous month aged 71, after suffering the third in a series of strokes.
Also in the congregation were the Prince of Wales,who was very close to his grandmother, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry, the Princess Royal and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.
The Duke of York was joined by his daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. The Countess of Wessex was alone as the Earl is on an official visit in France.
Some of the Queen’s grandchildren were missing, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly on a skiing holiday in the French Alps.
