At a construction site at the corner of Lapsi Street and St Mark Street in St Julians, builders commence excavation works at 6.50 a.m., reaching noise levels of between 80 and 100 decibels.

I contacted the St Julians local council and they replied that there was nothing they could do. I then called the Malta Environment and Planning Authority but they said this was not an issue related to licences so I should contact the police. I finally called the St Julians police station to hear from them that they don’t really know the legislation, so don’t really know what to do.

I pay my taxes every month and I make sure every civil servant in this country gets his salary on time. All the neighbours have been unable to sleep and the situation is even worse for the ones working on late shifts.

Does it make sense to create a few construction jobs but to destroy the lives of at least 50 people in St Julians?
