Dear Mr/Ms Storace,
Please note that sportive clay pigeon shooting emerged as an aside (not substitute) to the hunting discipline as a result of competitive training mostly during closed seasons. The terminology of ‘clay traps’ (the mechanism that releases the clay) and ‘pull’ (the indication for releasing the target) came about as a result of the first training and competitive shoots in which boxes containing live pigeons would be placed in the field. Typically the box would contain a string that upon ‘pulling’ would release the ‘trap’ door of the box. Thus the shooter would instruct the range official to ‘pull’ the string and release the ‘trap’ whenever he was ready to take shot. With time the box was replaced with mechanical launchers that release clay targets instead of pigeons.
To date most clay shooters, especially those practicing sporting or skeet are hunters. In actual fact, Trap and Double Trap resemble driven game such as quail, pheasant, grouse or woodcock, and appeal mostly to hunters keen on driven shots. Skeet and Sporting resemble normal crossing/flushed targets, such as Doves, Rabbits, Quail, Teals, and appeal mostly to hunters keen on crossing targets at different heights and angles.
To this very date despite his commitment to the clay shooting discipline Mr. William Chetcuti is an active hunter. Mr. Nathan Lee Xuereb is aspiring to follow the foot steps of his preceding generations and will in the future join the hunting community.
During the last weekend the KRPE (sub-committee of FKNK) organized a clay pigeon shooting event spanning over 2 days, for both Trap and Sporting disciplines, during which numerous hunters tried their luck and tested their skills. Other events are scheduled throughout the year. At the end of the year part of the money generated will be donated for a noble charitable cause as the committee deems fit.
No matter your belittling and sarcastic ‘They shoot pigeons don’t they!!!’ we are proud to be keen shooters, of both clay targets and game birds, just as the remaining 7 million EU hunters.

Mr J Xerri, well said, to add with what you replied to Mr/Ms Storace, our tradition of hunting is not just about shooting birds, what we enjoy in those early hours is difficult for some people to understand.

Another success in an Individual Sport.
WE are always failing heavily in Team Sports, so why don't we invest more in INDIVIDUAL sports???
Very Logical i suppose?!!
