A Libyan man has been jailed for 13 years after admitting to association to import drugs.

Abdurahman Mohammed Abushiba was arrested at the airport in June last year after arriving from Tripoli carrying a suitcase with almost a kilo and a half of heroin hidden in a false bottom. The drug had a street value of €67,000.

The court heard how the arrangements for the importation of the drug were made with a certain Emad in Malta and the accused was to be paid 100 grams of heroin for carrying the suitcase.

The court also convicted him for being in possession of cannabis resin.

The accused was also fined €30,000.
