The concept that ability to govern is solely associated with age and experience is a myth- Josianne Cutajar, Labour councillor, Nadur

In the case of Gozo, a fair share of youth candidates were elected, with one of the Labour candidates being elected mayor.

These results are, in my opinion, a sign of trust by the electorate in the youths’ ability to directly participate in the governance of their localities.

Youths are not only full of energy and new ideas but are also capable of exercising the electorate’s mandate once they are elected to serve their community. This is apparent from the fact that a number of youth councillors who contested for the second or third time have been re-elected, with some of them even becoming mayors.

The Labour Party has given a lot of support to youth candidates, through the START campaign- Josianne Cutajar, Labour councillor, Nadur

The Labour Party has given a lot of support to youth candidates, especially through the START campaign. This successful initiative has served as a platform for youths wishing to contest local council elections to step forward, connect, propose and stand a chance of being elected. This clearly demonstrates that the PL genuinely believes that youths should not simply be regarded as our country’s future but also as contributors to current politics.

May I end by thanking the electorate, the PL, START and, last but not least, my family, boyfriend and friends for their support and for believing in my potential in bringing about a change in my locality.
