Obituaries
BORG. On March 24, at Mater Dei Hospital, CARMELA, née Axisa, of Tarxien, aged 78, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Emanuel, her chilrden Joe and his wife Josephine, Carmen, Margaret and her husband Manuel Zammit, grandchildren Edward and his fiancée Daniela, Rebecca Marie and Mattija, her brothers and sister, in-laws, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.30 p.m. for Tarxien parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3 p.m. followed by interment at Tarxien Cemetery. Lord, grant her eternal rest.
DAY. On March 24, at Mater Dei Hospital ARTHUR STEWART, aged 69, comforted by the rites for the sick and the dying. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Graziella, his children Roy, Meg and her partner Alistair, his stepson James, his brothers and sisters and their spouses, his sister-in-law Daniela wife of Trevor Carden, his mother-in-law Bernadette Mamo, nephews and nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2 p.m. for interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery where a service will be held by the family grave. May the Lord grant him eternal rest.
MILANES. On March 24, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPHINE, née Darmanin, aged 99, widow of Wilfred, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her three daughters Marysa, Victoria and her husband Tony Bonello, and Theresa and her husband Lewis Zammit Tabona, her sister Miriam Meli, her sister-in-law Maryrose Darmanin, her son-in-law Saviour Portelli, her grandchildren Nicola and Martin Woodward, Michel and Romina Portelli, Michael and Rebecca Bonello, Gillian and Philip Brown, Sharon Zammit Tabona and Sandra and Patrice Peyre, her great-grandchildren and her most dedicated carers Terry, Manel and Tessie, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 8 a.m. for St Gregory’s parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.45 a.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Donations to Puttinu Cares will be greatly appreciated. Special thanks to the doctors and staff of Mater Dei Hospital. May the Lord grant her eternal rest.
WIRTH. On March 25, at Mater Dei Hospital, ANTHONY VICTOR, of Sliema, aged 87, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his sad and irreparable loss his wife Anne née Portanier, his beloved children Dr Sandra Wirth, Lorraine and her husband Dr Bryan Flores Martin, Audrey and her husband David Brockdorff, his grandchildren Kyle, Andreas, James and Nicole, his brothers and sisters Maria, widow of the late President Emeritus Ċensu Tabone, Philip and his wife Georgina, Suor Elena of the Sisters of Charity, Jeannine, widow of the late Ian Edington, Fr Robert Wirth SJ, in-laws Frank Portanier, Marina, wife of Eric Symes, and Lillian Portanier, other relatives and friends. Details of funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

Concert at St John’s
The Collegium Musicum choir and orchestra and the University Vocal Ensemble will be performing Karl Jenkins’ Stabat Mater at St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta on Thursday at 7.30 p.m. in aid of Caritas Malta. Entry is free of charge but a donation towards Caritas Malta is appreciated. Women are requested to refrain from wearing stiletto heels.
