A night for fans of the popular 1990s TV series The X-Files is being held tonight at the Cultural Institute, St George’s Square, Valletta, at 7 p.m.

The discussion will surely touch upon UFO sightings, alien abductions, genetic experimentation...

From its TV debut in 1993, a film in 1998 to a return to the big screen in 2008, the sci-fi drama set the blue print for many later series, particularly Lost and Fringe.

The series’ title referred to those unsolved FBI files which dealt with the paranormal and unexplained. The cases were investigated by maverick FBI Special Agent Fox “Spook” Mulder (David Duchovny) and his colleague the medical sceptic Dana Scully (Gillian Andersen) who endeavoured to prove that “the truth is out there”.

The event will be led by Justin Camilleri and David Pace who will discuss and explore the various themes featured in the X-files series, and the science behind the files and their relevance to society.

The discussion will surely touch upon UFO sightings, alien abductions, genetic experimentation, possessions, telekinesis, mysterious cults that harbour dark secrets, Area 51 and legends of the likes of werewolves, vampires, Big Foot, Atlantis and The Loch Ness Monster.

Sequences from the series will be shown throughout the discussion which will be followed by a short quiz in which participants can win prizes.

The event is being organised by the Euro Media Forum in collaboration with the Malta Film Commission, Science is Culture, Valletta Living History and the Italian Cultural Institute. Entrance is free but booking is recommended. Send a text message on 99608361 or drop an e-mail to euromediaforum@gmail.com
