A public lecture entitled ‘The hunt for the farthest galaxies at the edge of time’ will be given by Joseph Caruana in the Aula Magna of the University’s Valletta campus on Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m.

In the talk hosted by the Department of Physics, Mr Caruana will give an account of the remarkable discovery of distant galaxies and the efforts of astronomers to build new observatories and upgrade their instruments, among them the Hobble Space Telescope.

Mr Caruana uses this telescope and several remote ground-based observatories to hunt for the farthest galaxies in the cosmos. These galaxies are then used to extract information about the very early universe.

The lecture is free and everyone is welcome.
