Members of the Armed Forces of Malta Band under the direction of Captain John Ivan Borg recently took part in a music appreciation programme held for 300 Year 5 pupils from various schools forming part of St Benedict College and student representatives from Helen Keller Resource Centre.

During the activity students were urged to listen to and understand the different musical instruments and as a first step to possibly encourage some of them to choose music as a practical subject option in secondary school.

During the marching display, pupils who were already familiar with the instruments being played, were given the opportunity to join in with the band and play alongside experienced army band players and the St Benedict College Band and orchestra.

Apart from promoting music appreciation as part of the national curriculum, such activities help to strengthen links and interaction between children and teachers attending various schools.
