Bank of Valletta recently launched BoV Mobile, a new mobile channel enabling customers to make payments and transactions from their smartphones.
The bank’s CEO, Charles Borg, said BoV Mobile Pay was one of the services being offered through its new mobile channel, making person-to-person payments from the mobile phone a convenient and simple process.
“Using this service will be much easier than exchanging cash or writing a cheque,” said Mr Borg, who also underlined that the bank would be showcasing its product with a view to creating a large base of mobile banking users that would effectively create a new payments ecosystem for Malta.
BoV Mobile is available across a wide range of Apple iPhone and Android smartphones and tablets and can be accessed locally and abroad using either 3G or wifi. The BoV Mobile app is available free for download from the Apple App Store and from Google Play.
Victor Denaro, chief officer of IT at BoV, said BoV Mobile provided a secure banking and payments experience thanks to the multiple layers of security it employed. “We have combined robust security with convenience and simplicity.”
BoV chief officer, operations, Michael Galea said a lot of thought and work had gone into designing the BoV Mobile customer experience. “Our teams have worked to make the service customer-oriented.”
Registration is done through the BoV internet banking service in a self-explanatory three-step process, whereby one determines the mobile phone number that will be used for the service.
At that stage, customers receive an SMS on their smartphone with an activation code that is entered into the app on the phone, giving immediate access to a wide range of mobile banking and payments services.
