Forty-five agents from 19 countries recently travelled to Malta for a three-day Federation of English Language Teaching Organisations of Malta (Feltom) international workshop for study-abroad professionals.
The Feltom ELT Malta Workshop, a key event on the international education travel circuit calendar, included an intensive day of meetings at the Radisson Blu St Julian’s.
Agents met representatives of 25 Maltese EFL schools and later visited school premises.
Another highlight on the visiting agents’ programme was a range of guided tours to heritage sites in Valletta and Mdina and a harbour cruise.
The Feltom workshop is an opportunity to showcase Malta’s ‘English as a Foreign Language’ sector and to promote the island as a quality language learning destination.
Feltom said many schools find this workshop particularly useful because participating agents have a specific interest in promoting Malta.
Although a number of local schools attend several international workshops abroad, for some this is the only exposure their organisation receives at an international event.
Malta is now established as a serious quality destination for learning English and competes effectively with other English learning destinations.
In 2011, almost 70,000 EFL students visited the island and stayed for approximately 182,000 weeks, translating into several million euros channelled into the economy.
