PANATHINAIKOS: The Panathi- naikos board of directors resigned en masse after a stormy three-hour meeting yesterday plunging the Greek club into further crisis. The dramatic turn of events followed a warning by the Super League that Panathinaikos were to pay the maximum penalty for last Sunday’s riots during the derby clash with Olympiakos at the Athens Olympic Stadium. Olympiakos were awarded the match 3-0.
BARRIOS: Borussia Dortmund striker Lucas Barrios has agreed to join Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande on a four-year contract. Barrios extended his contract with Dortmund last year but is set to join Guangzhou in a transfer worth €12 million that will net him an annual salary of €6.7 million.
MAGGIO: Christian Maggio’s injury is not as serious as first thought, Napoli revealed yester-day. The defender limped out of Wednesday’s Italian Cup semi-final win over Siena with a thigh problem. Initial reports suggested that he would be sidelined for about a month but further tests showed that he may only be out of action for 10 days.
DEL NERO: Sao Paulo lawyer Marco Polo del Nero, 71, will replace Ricardo Teixeira on the FIFA executive committee after his fellow Brazilian quit following allegations of corruption. Teixeira, who resigned his positions as president of the Brazilian Confederation and chief of the 2016 World Cup organising committee last week, had sat on FIFA’s EXCO since 1994.
KEIRRISON: Barcelona have agreed to loan striker Keirrison to Coritiba. The two-season deal will see the 23-year-old Brazilian return to the club where he started his professional career. Keirrison joined Barca from Palmeiras for an initial €14m in 2009.
