The first imports of Maltese grown potatoes to the Netherlands have arrived in Tilburg at the Jansen Dongen BV, a Dutch company that specialises in the growing, packing and selling of potatoes.

The family-run company was founded decades ago and has been, for many years, one of the top suppliers of vegetable products such as potatoes, carrots and onions for supermarket chains in the Netherlands and Germany.

The company was today visited by Malta's Ambassador to the Netherlands Martin Valentino and Malta's consul general in Breda Herman Stevens to welcome the arrival of some 100 tons of potatoes.

Maltese potatoes will continue to be exported in the coming months until May.

The Ambassador discussed with company owner Adriaan Jansen the possibility of importing onions from Malta and the re-export of Maltese potatoes to Scandinavian countries from the Netherlands.
