A Venezuela-born man holding a Spanish passport has been jailed 10 years and fined €23,000 after he admitted to association to import drugs and being in possession of heroin.

Gerardo Jose Ruiz Pena, 45, was taken to court in September 2009 after the police found him in possession of 83 capsules containing 830 grammes of 47 per cent pure heroin in his stomach.

He had been at the airport on his arrival from Düsseldorf.
