Malta was eager to help the Tunisian people in whatever way it could, including with scholarships and ensuring Tunisia’s voice was heard within European fora, Foreign Minister Tonio Borg said during an official visit to Tunisia.

Dr Borg was the first Maltese government official to meet with Tunisia’s new government, elected last October following the overthrow of Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali.

Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki praised Malta’s proposal to hold biannual summits between the EU and Arab states.

He also commended Malta for its progress within the financial services sector.
