Thought leader and author Edward DeBono and John Vella, senior research fellow at the Oxford University Centre for Business Taxation will be among the guest speakers at Finance Malta’s annual conference on May 18.

This year’s event, themed ‘Malta’s financial services industry – sustaining the momentum’ will be held at the Radisson Blu Resort and Spa, Golden Bay.

It will be opened by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and will be chaired by Finance Malta chairman Kenneth Farrugia.

Local and international experts will address the participants on topical issues through presentations, discussions, workshops and panel sessions. Participants will include high-level government officials, regulators, legal and accountancy professionals, and business executives.

Prof. DeBono will speak on ‘Lateral Thinking and Six Thinking Hats for the Financial Services Industry’; Dr Vella will talk about the financial transaction tax. Jane Fuller, co-director of CSFI financial services think-tank, will focus on ‘Corporate Governance in the financial services sector’ and investigate the current landscape.

Central Bank Governor Josef Bonnici will reflect on the financial and economic challenges in the euro area and beyond. MEP Edward Scicluna, HSBC Bank Malta chief executive Mark Watkinson, and Stefano Mazzocchi, director for Advocacy at the Brussels office of the Association for Financial Markets in Europe, will also make contributions.

In the afternoon, the conference will hold three concurrent workshops and panel sessions on investment funds, insurance and wealth management.

More than 200 leading business executives from the financial services industry including insurance and reinsurance executives, fund managers, bankers, financial specialists, journalists, lawyers, accountants and other service providers will attend.
