A judge annulled a marriage yesterday after hearing of the terrible circumstances surrounding the wedding, involving a girl who got pregnant at 14 to escape a home from hell she shared with two convicted murderers.
The girl, now a woman, told the court she had got married in 1992 when she was 16. Her husband was 22 years old.
She said she came from a very disturbed background: her mother and her mother’s partner had murdered her father and served a 17-year prison sentence. The woman and her siblings were placed in different children’s homes and she claimed she had been physically abused there.
Upon her mother’s release from prison, the girl had gone to live with her. But the mother had started to prostitute herself and used to take her daughter, just 14, along with her.
The girl started dating her future husband and purposely got pregnant in order to escape from her nightmarish home life.
Madame Justice Abigail Lofaro ruled that the marriage was null and void for the woman had entered into the marriage with the sole intention of leaving her unhappy home.
