In what has now become a regular feature on their annual programme of events, the local branch of the French Buikukan Aikido School will be hosting a top instructor for its spring seminar between March 30 and April 1.

Since formally becoming a branch of the Provence-based school in 2010, the Maltese Aikido Club, the Buikukan Yamato Dojo, has benefited from regular seminars by the school’s founder Jean Francois Riondet Shihan.

The club’s members also regularly participate in training sessions in France – a practice that is highly encouraged and supported by Riondet Shihan.

These international exchanges are considered to be a key element for the Maltese school to ensure top-quality instruction.

The training camp will be conducted by Henry Doutreleau who has been practising Aikido for over 35 years.

Doutreleau is head of the school’s dojo in Marseille, France, where he is renowned for his effective teaching methods and firm, clear move-ments of Aikido.

Aikido is a martial art physi-cally based on ancient Japanese Samurai tradition.

It focuses primarily on the study of natural body move-ments, a supple approach to physical techniques and the de-velopment of a harmonious, co-operative spirit.

The training camp will be held at the Yamato Dojo base in Maria Assumpta girls secondary school, Ħamrun.
