74 migrants who were rescued by the Tunisian fishing-vessel Lofti on Saturday, are to be taken to Tunisia aboard a Tunisian Navy vessel following an agreement between the Tunisian and Italian authorities.

The rescued migrants are currently still on the Lotfi south of the Italian island of Lampedusa.

The migrants were not in distress and Italy refused to take them to Lampedusa, claiming the island is not a safe port.

The Lotfi rescued the migrants from a position 53 nautical miles from Tunisia, 50 nautical miles from Lampedusa and 120 nautical miles from Malta.

The Armed Forces of Malta coordinated the rescue.
