Malta last registered a 9% increase in exports in 2011 over 2010, new data published by the EU's statistics office shows.
While between January and December 2010 Malta exported a total of €2.7 billion worth of products, exports increased by a further €200 million during 2011.
At the same time, imports continued to soar last year reaching €4.4 billion – an increase of 13 per cent over 2010.
Eurostat's trade data shows that all the EU's 27 member states showed an increase in exports in 2010 when compared to the previous year. The steepest rise was registered by Estonia, which increase its exports by 37 per cent.
On the importation side only Greece and Cyprus experiences a drop in imports. The two countries are currently in a recession.
