Southampton boosted their Championship promotion challenge with a dramatic 3-2 victory at Millwall, while Reading cemented their hold on second place after thrashing Barnsley 4-0 yesterday.
Nigel Adkins’s leaders were just five minutes away from defeat at The Den after Millwall recovered from Rickie Lambert’s 16th-minute opener to take the lead before half-time through a Jose Fonte own goal and a fine strike from captain Paul Robinson.
But leading scorer Lambert came to the rescue once again as he equalised with an 85th-minute penalty after winning the spot-kick himself.
Lambert then snatched the points with another penalty three minutes later after referee Fred Graham ruled that Alan Dunne had handled.
