The English-Speaking Union of Malta is holding two new courses in the coming weeks at its premises in Valley Road, Msida.

‘Effective communication in the workplace’ will be held on May 14 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while the second course, ‘Training the trainer and coaching the coach’ will be held on May 16 and 17 at the same times.

The tutor is Iain Thompson from the Bank of England. In the first course he will help busy managers and others to get their messages across at work by seeking shared understanding between senders and recipients, and by using some straightforward frameworks.

Listening, as well as giving out messages, is important – and using insights from well-tried frameworks helps to keep messages clear and concise. The event will take account of participants’ experience, and will be interactive and practical. Each participant will have the opportunity to practise various types and styles of communication, and will benefit from constructive feedback. Participants will be encouraged to rehearse messages they have to give in real life and sometimes difficult situations.

The ‘Training the trainer and coaching the coach’ course is aimed at helping existing and potential trainers, managers and others to develop their skills as trainers and coaches in any type of business. The event will also take into account participants’ experience, and will be interactive and practical. Each participant will have the opportunity to practise running a brief training session for a group and an individual coaching session for a colleague.
