I am not from Rabat but once or twice a week I need to go to the bank at Saqqajja. To say that parking is a problem is an understatement. Every time I end up going round and round in circles around the Saqqajja area trying to park but there are only two options, either parking illegally or going back home.
If you decide to park where you shouldn’t , the wardens will be next to your car issuing a ticket in no time, even measuring the distance from your front bumper to the street corner if need be. If you are lucky enough to find a parking place either in the car park near the swings or next to the Roman Villa, don’t think that this is straight forward either. As soon as you step out of the car, you’ll be approached by a car park attendant. Don’t try to argue with these people because they have been making a fortune every day for so long now that they have started to think they own the car parks.
I work my guts out every day of the week and everybody out there knows how difficult it is to make ends meet. After paying the permits, national insurance, tax and every day expenses, one is not left with much. Meanwhile, these so-called car park attendants are making a fortune off our backs. Doesn’t anybody notice these things or is it just me getting old and grumpy?
Those doing things by the book are getting slapped in the face all the time and those breaking the law are laughing all the way to the bank. I think I am being cheated left, right and centre.
