It is with deep regret and sadness that I learn of the passing of Ċensu Tabone, past president of the George Cross Island Association.
On behalf of the officers and members of the GCIA, I offer our most sincere condolences to his family and friends at their sad loss. He will be truly missed.
He was not only our president but a good friend of the association since its inception and a true gentleman. He touched the hearts of all he came in contact with.
The GCIA are indebted to him for his support over many years, especially when the Malta government dignified the 50th anniversary of the presentation of the George Cross to the island in 1942 by striking the Malta GC 50th anniversary medal, which was presented by him to so many of our Siege members in Malta and gazetted by Her Majesty, the Queen.
Our Siege of Malta veteran members are becoming fewer every year as time catches up with them. it is very sad for the association when we are advised that one of them has passed away because it’s like losing one of your own family as we become very fond of our elderly statesmen for what they did for us during those dark days of World War II. We will remember him.
