McLaren's Lewis Hamilton won pole position this morning in an exciting qualifying session before the first race of the formula one season in Australia.

Jenson Button was second, making this an all McLaren front row.

Grosjean of Lotus (formerly Renault) was third, just ahead of the Mercedes of Michael Schumacher.

Redbull's Mark Webber and reigning champion Sebastian Vettel came next.

There was disappointment for former champions Raikonnen (Lotus), eliminated at the first hurdle and Fernando Alonso, eliminated in the second, both because of mistakes.

The session  confirmed the problems being faced by Ferrari, with second driver Massa also not making it into the third session.
