The European Pilot Academy wants to spread its business to European markets by attracting European students to Malta for training, company chairman Ray Zarb said this afternoon.

The academy, which forms part of the Falcon Alliance, this afternoon inaugurated a €324,000 flight simulator aimed at helping it achieve its aim.  €125,000 of the cost was funded through the European development fund. It is the first simulator of its kind in Malta and it is known as the FNPT II.

Through the simulator, training can be given 24 hours  a day and Maltese students no longer have to go abroad to receive the training it is required for.

Inaugurating the simulator, Small Business Minister Jason Azzopardi said this investment was enabling the company to create more jobs.

Set up 19 years ago, the European Flight Academy has 38 employees and plans to employ another four in the coming months.

CEO Sarah Zarb said that the academy's students doubled to 128 in the past two years.
