Rugby Union: Scotland wing Lee Jones has been ruled out of Saturday’s wooden spoon Six Nations decider with Italy with concussion. The 23-year-old Edinburgh back was taken off following a sickening clash of heads with opposite number Andrew Trimble in Scotland’s 32-14 loss to Ireland in Dublin last Saturday, which leaves Andy Robinson’s side still seeking a first win of the championship ahead of their trip to Rome.

Basketball, NBA: Derrick Rose scored 32 points to power Chicago Bulls past New York Knicks 104-99, giving the hosts an NBA-best 35-9 record with the 10th victory in their past 11 games. Carlos Boozer and Taj Gibson each scored 15 points for the Bulls while Joakim Noah added 12 points. The Knicks suffered their sixth loss in a row and the seventh in their past eight games in falling to 18-24, level with Milwaukee for the eighth and final play-off spot in the Eastern Conference.

Golf: Tiger Woods said he has suffered only a mild strain of his left Achilles tendon and that he is hopeful of playing in the US PGA Arnold Palmer Invitational next week as planned. Woods withdrew from the World Golf Championships event at Doral on Sunday after hitting his tee shot on the 12th hole, complaining of a tightness in his left Achilles tendon, the same one he hurt at last year’s Masters tournament.

Sumo Wrestling: Africa’s first professional sumo wrestler made a victorious debut in Osaka yesterday as Japan’s ritualistic sport draws more foreign competitors. Egyptian national Abdelrahman Ahmed Shaalan, 20, who goes by the ring name of “Osunaarashi”, meaning a great sand storm, beat his Japanese opponent with an arm throw. Shaalan, who stands 189 centimetres and weighs 145 kilos, began sumo five years ago and won a bronze medal at the 2008 World Junior Sumo Championships.
