Of the 32 babies born during 2011 to mothers of 16 years of age and under, 14 hailed from the southern harbour area – Valletta, Senglea, Cospicua, Żabbar, Fgura, Floriana, Kalkara, Luqa, Marsa, Paola, Sta Luċija, Tarxien and Xgħajra.
Answering a question by Helena Dalli (PL), Health Minister Joseph Cassar said that six were born to mothers living in the northern harbour area, comprised of Qormi, Birkirkara, Gżira, Ħamrun, Msida, Pembroke, Pietà, St Julians, San Ġwann, Santa Venera, Sliema, Swieqi, and Ta’ Xbiex.
Four babies were born to mothers from the north area (Għargħur, Mellieħa, Mġarr, Mosta, Naxxar, and St Paul’s Bay) and four hailing from the southeast (Żejtun, Birżebbuġa, Gudja, Għaxaq, Kirkop, Marsaskala, Marsaxlokk, Mqabba, Qrendi, Safi and Żurrieq).
There were two babies each from the west (Mdina, Żebbuġ, Siġġiewi, Attard, Balzan, Dingli, Iklin and Lija) and Gozo.
