A recent study among children aged five to 13 years, carried out by a leading UK energy company, revealed that 67 per cent of them could work a DVD player and 58 per cent could log on to the internet while only 55 per cent could tie their shoelaces.

These findings, reported in the British press a few days ago, seem to have raised a few eyebrows.

Yet, the most baffling aspect, I find, is what on earth tickled a gas and electricity supplier into going around asking children whether they could tie their shoelaces!
