One hundred years ago today, on March 14, 1912, the four new bells for the Holy Trinity parish church of Marsa were blessed and consecrated by the names of Lorenza, Maria Carmela, Paulina and Francesca.

This was the first set of bells manufactured by the firm Barigozzi of Milan, Italy, to be imported into Malta.

Thanksgiving Mass will be celebrated this evening to mark this centenary and a commemorative plaque will be unveiled. On Sunday morning, the public is invited to view the bells from the church belfries.

For one whole century these bells shared the joy and the sorrow with the people of the parish of Marsa.
