A range of corporate dental insurance plans has recently been launched in Malta by Atlas Healthcare and AXA PPP healthcare. In line with increased interest in employees’ health and safety and the increased take-up of improved health insurance benefits, for the first time dental treatment can be covered by specialised dental group insurance plans. They have been introduced in collaboration with Denplan Limited who provide the support and expertise. Denplan has over 1,700 corporate plans in the UK and around 1.8 million registered patients.
There is increasing evidence that poor oral health is linked to serious health conditions: regular dental visits are an excellent way of keeping these potential problems at bay. A number of conditions which are unfortunately so prevalent in Malta such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke are now shown to be linked to poor oral health. The earlier these signs are detected the easier it is to treat the problem. Seeing a dentist regularly can also help prevent dental pain, dental emergencies and expensive invasive treatment. Even serious conditions such as mouth cancer can be more successfully treated if spotted at an early stage. All this evidence points to the fact that regular dental visits are an essential part of looking after employee health and wellbeing!
The new range of corporate dental plans cover a wide range of dental treatments for the first time in Malta from routine treatments including scale and polishes and x-rays; contributions to restorative treatments such as fillings, root canal treatment, crowns and bridges, other sundry treatment as well as 24 hour worldwide dental injury and overseas emergency cover, a 24 hour overseas helpline and mouth cancer cover. The main exclusions are similar to the ones applicable to health insurance policies including the non-coverage of pre-existing conditions and cosmetic treatment. No check-ups are required to join and premiums are surprisingly reasonable.
These plans are available for company paid groups including at least 10 employees while individuals or families can cover themselves on dental payment plans which can be purchased through Denplan dentists. They also include injury and emergency insurance and mouth cancer cover.
