Some 600 detailed scale models, the fruit of long weeks and months of research and an eye to detail, were displayed at the Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa over the weekend.

The 31st edition of the Scale Modellers Society’s annual exhibition featured both figurines and dioramas. It trailed the history of civil and military aircraft, armoured vehicles and different classes of ships and included a section of figurines hailing from different eras. It also included live scale modelling.

As Malta’s representative of the International Plastic Modellers’ Society, the Scale Modellers Society hopes that the annual exhibition and its scale modelling courses and workshops will encourage young people to take up this pastime, which has seen several local models win international awards.

The society mentors new members until they are capable of building high-standard scale models to be displayed at the annual exhibition.

Maltese modellers participate in international competitions across Europe and also in the US.
